Focusing on Diagnostic Medicine: Anatomic Pathology, Clinical Lab, and Radiology Billing

Physician Data Management, L.L.C. (PDM) focuses on making results count with billing and practice management services for clients across specialties and particularly in Pathology/Laboratory and Radiology.

Begun in 1997, PDM is a pathology-based boutique billing service with proven expertise paired with powerful tools to take results to new levels. With professionals who blend the best of billing experience with laboratory management experience, PDM offers a unique understanding of what it takes to be an extension of a pathology practice or laboratory. PDM serves clients across the United States, ranging from very large independent/reference labs to single-pathologist practices. PDM performs billing for clinical testing, clinical professional component, and anatomic pathology.

Why PDM?

By applying our practice management approach to clients’ revenue streams, we drive clients’ profits as if their revenue was our money.

Our Keys to success are our employees’ tenacity, advanced technology, extensive experience in both practice management and billing, open-architecture communication, and outstanding data/reporting.

Most importantly, we truly love what we do for our clients.

The 5 Principles of PDM

  1. Deliver professional, personalized service at a fair price.
  2. Apply experience in practice management and managed care to guide groups to maximize profits.
  3. Provide greater control by clients over billing through systems access and quality information.
  4. Use technology to produce results faster, smarter, & more efficiently.
  5. Strive to be the better billing company, not the biggest.

Solutions and Services

The key to Making Results Count is never losing focus on our clients’ revenue streams. Our boutique approach allows us to concentrate on those activities which generate revenue, as well as keep our clients well within the limits of laws/regulations. For clients, we offer a menu of services that include:

  • Coding: Primary, Review, & Audit
  • Charge Entry
  • Data Mining
  • Electronic Data Management: Outbound & Inbound
  • Claims & Patient-Encounter Tracking
  • A/R Management: Appeals, Disputes, & Harvesting
  • Cash Posting
  • Adjustments/Write-off Management
  • Refunds
  • Process Improvement Services

Any billing company can follow the usual processes to produce some amount of cash, but at PDM, we push beyond conventional wisdom to secure our clients’ payments by doing what any one of us would do personally—fight for our cash! We take it personally.

In addition, two aspects of how we manage PDM make a big difference for our clients. First, we open our database to all of our clients. They know what we know. There are no secrets, no black boxes. Second, we provide exceptional reports/data and show our clients how to mine their own data with ease and accuracy.

Pathology & Laboratory

With significant pathology practice management experience within PDM, natural growth has occurred in Pathology/Lab. PDM serves very large practices with independent laboratories, both AP and Clinical, as well as smaller practices of just a couple physicians. The key to managing successes for all types of Pathology/Lab clients is attending to the bottom line, communicating well and often, providing useful data/information, and treating each client’s cash as if it was our own. In Pathology/Lab, PDM has become a very useful “partner” for its clients, assisting in such profitable work as analyzing reimbursement in order to renegotiate payer contracts and, ultimately, sitting down with payers to determine terms and conditions of contracts.

Radiology

PDM’s billing and practice management expertise provides a significant advantage for hospital-based Radiologists. As one of the major diagnostic specialties, PDM sees Radiology as a key area for corporate growth. With the emergence of Diagnostic Medicine, the ability to work with a company that understands both disciplines is vital. PDM’s strong coding experience and attention to detail are what is needed on the front end. Our tenacity and unwavering focus ensure unequaled results.

Practice Management Expertise

Extensive practice management experience exists within PDM’s team. Having “been there, done that” makes it easier to serve clients, allowing PDM’s staff to respond quickly and effectively to clients. By understanding the demands on a practice in managerial-related matters, PDM can anticipate needs and deliver results with greater precision and speed.

In some cases, PDM’s management assists practices with assignments that help manage a client’s business, ranging from credentialing and contracting to recruitment and compensation strategy. Of course, the needs of every practice vary, and PDM serves clients from a menu of activities, tailoring services to specific client needs.

Overall, having the practice management perspective helps motivate us to take care of practice issues with the same zeal that a practice administrator or managing physician might have for their organization.

Our Team

Michael Ferrie – President and CEO

Michael has more than 20 years of diverse experience in healthcare. Michael has molded his company to focus on what he refers to as “the practice management approach.” In billing, this approach serves the needs of pathologists as if PDM was the pathology practice. With this frame of mind, concentration on these activities allows stronger results to come forth.

Lisa Johnson – Chief Operating Officer & Senior Vice President

Lisa truly “grew up” at PDM. Joining PDM’s AR area as a collector, she worked her way up the organization based on her performance as a highly skilled professional who has maintained the highest levels of integrity in providing extremely responsive service to PDM’s clients. She never stops looking for the things that get in the way of collecting money, whether those issues are at the front of the process or anywhere along the way.

Chad Scribner – V.P. of Sales, Marketing & Customer Relations

Since joining PDM in 2007, Chad has worked to help grow PDM’s customer base and has readily adopted an Account Manager approach to working with clients. Through his experiences, Chad was able to gain an in-depth understanding of the workflow and idiosyncrasies of the pathology laboratory.
