Well it’s been an interesting week in Washington. On Thursday, the U.S. House of Representatives voted to approve H.R. 4302-Protecting Access to Medicare [1] which amends the Social Security Act, will delay both the sustainable growth rate formula (SGR) and the deadline for ICD-10 compliance by one year.
The AMA (http://www.ama-assn.org ) referred to the decision as an “unwanted Medicare patch” and “trickery”[2] while AHIMA (http://www.ahima.org/) has called for members to get after the Senate to remove the provision delaying ICD-10.
The news has been received with mixed emotions as compliance managers, trainers, system vendors, practice administrators and more have been scrambling to prepare for the 2014 deadline. The overarching attitude towards the decision hasn’t been good. Here at PMG we’re constantly working with our CHC Partners to stay ahead of the game and we worry that practices might see this as an opportunity to shift their focus from ICD10.
