The Supreme Court decision affirming the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act last month made clear, under law, that a vast number of uninsured Americans should obtain health coverage, one way or another, by 2014.
For community health centers, whose mission is to provide affordable primary care to everyone – including those who can’t pay for it – that expansion of coverage would bring many of their uninsured patients into some type of health coverage, be it Medicaid – the joint state-federal insurance program for low-income Americans – or health insurance subsidized under the PPACA.
